Browns Secure Statement Victory, Dealing 49ers Their First Loss of the Season

CLEVELAND (AP) - Rookie Jake Moody missed a 41-yard field goal with six seconds left, giving San Francisco a 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns and ending the 49ers' season winning streak at 15. Beyond the quarterback block. Purdy suffered his first loss as an NFL starter.

Dustin Hopkins made four field goals for the Browns (3-2), the last of which capped off a drive with 1:40 left, helped by an unnecessary roughness call against San Francisco (5-1). Cleveland pulled off the league's biggest upset this season without QB Deshaun Watson, who missed two consecutive games due to a right shoulder contusion.

The 49ers looked nearly invincible after defeating Dallas 42-10 at home last week. But Cleveland's defense was up to the task, and the 49ers were without playmakers Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel with injuries.

P.J. Walker, who came off Cleveland's practice squad, threw his first interception of the season and outpaced Purdy, who finished with just 125 yards.

Purdy, 23, was on the verge of a comeback after winning his first 10 games. He brought the 49ers into field goal range in the final seconds, with Moody pushing his attempt to the right.

When the ball went into the net, the Cleveland band cheered and Browns fans danced in the aisles.

Purdy gained 125 yards and was just 12 of 27.
